Gilt paneled boards with gilt vignette to front, raised banding and extensive floral designs to spine and gilt lettering. Marbled edges and endpapers. In very good condition. Some minor rubbing to edges and raised banding on spine, small chip to bottom edge of front board. Binders stamp to front “Stoakley, Cambridge.” Neat prize inscription to front endpaper “F. A. Cockin, 1st Prize IV A Form. Easter 1900.” See notes. Inside pages all very clean, bright and tight throughout. Else an excellent clean and tight copy. 408pp. Illustrated with B&W full-page plates and many illustrations within text. Dr. Cockin was late Bishop of Bristol from 1946 to 1958. Oxford educated, and former BBC chairman, he was a veteran radio broadcaster and remembered for many contributions to the church including those damaged by the war. Relevant loose newspaper cuttings in front.
