Three Volumes. Hardback, 11 x 8.5 inches. In dark green/black covers, Half bound with leather spines and cloth covered boards. Extensive embossed decorations to boards, with gilt vignettes to centers, spines with gilt lettering and gilt pictorial decorations. All page edges gilt, yellow endpapers. In very good condition. Some fading and rubbing to spines, rubbed at ends, corners bumped and chipped. A couple of minor bumps and rubbing to edges. Small bookseller labels to endpapers “Lacey, Liverpool.” Some darkening and foxing to edges of plates, some more heavily foxed than others. Else overall very clean and tight copies. 3 vols. Illustrated with 120 steel-engraved plate views including decorative title pages (all guarded.) and 2 maps. Published at a time when travel around Britain was still difficult, this set of boks was intended to illustrate the Holy Land and surrounding areas for those who could not go there. The full plate engravings are detailed and the text describes the land and the lives of the people who live there.
