Two volumes. Hardback, 9 x 6 inches. Dark green pebbled cloth covers with blind paneled boards, gilt pictorial vignettes and gilt lettering to spines. Brown endpapers. In very good condition. Some wear to covers; extremities rubbed, corners bumped with small nicks, nick to top edge of board on v.2., nicks to ends of spine on v.1. Repaired split to cloth on rear hinge v.1. with glue repairs to inner hinges. Neat inscription to front endpapers “Alfred Pilkington, W. Manchester.” Small embossed bookseller stamps to opposite endpaper corners “T. Day, Market St. Manchester.” Some mild foxing to endpapers. Small chip to bottom edge of prelims including frontis and title page. Some neat pen notes to rear side of frontis plate. A couple of tiny handling marks to pages else overall pages very clean and tight throughout. p.7-10 in v.2. have some minor rubbing to edges where slightly proud of binding. Else clean and tight copies. 671 & 652pp + 32pp cat. (in vol.1.) Illustrated with a fold-out B&W Map, 7 full-page B&W Plates and many Woodcut figures in text.
