Half bound in polished brown morocco leather fine bindings with green cloth to boards by “Henry Southeran, London.” Gilt line edging to boards,with raised and gilt banding to spines, gilt lettering and decorations. Top page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. In very good conditions. Some minor rubbing to corners and raised banding on spines, some light rubbing and minor handling marks to cloths on boards. A couple of bumps to edges. Dark staining mark along spine of vol.2. Bookplates to endpapers “M. & E.V. Bowater.” Inscription above bookplate in v.1: “Reginald Neild. Lindsay House, Cheyne Walk.” Frontis plate in vol.1. quite heavily foxed, affecting title page, plate after title, dedication and some spots to contents pages. Rear prelims and folding map clean. A couple of minor spots to outer page edges. Else inside pages and plates all very clean and tight throughout. Else very clean and tight copies. 2 vols; 462, 662pp. Profusely illustrated with b&w plates, maps and diagrams, some folding. Engraved frontis portrait to vol.1.
