Quarter bound in dark green morocco leather to spines and corners, with marbled paper boards, gilt edging to boards, with raised banding, gilt lettering and paneling to spines, with gilt crests to top ends of spines. All page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. In very good conditions. Spines faded and darkened some light rubbing to paper on boards. Some rubbing to edges and corners. “Blackwell” bookseller labels to inner corners of endpapers. A couple of previous owners inscriptions to front endpaper in v.1, “Caroline Gascoine, 1834,” “Robert Cooke, 1951,” and another small pasted note to opposite endpaper.Mild foxing to portrait in vol.1, with foxing and darkening to title and contents pages. Mild foxing spots throughout inside pages. Some pencil notes in first volume. Else a very clean and tight set. 7 vols. Volume 1 illustrated with an engraved frontis portrait.
