Bound in green full polished-morocco leather, gilt lettering and raised banding to spines, gilt bird (pheonix?) designs to covers, with gilt initials “C.C.C” to boards. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Decorative inner dentelles to boards. In very good conditions. Spines faded and browned. Similar fading to rear board of vol 2. Some minor handling marks to boards, a couple of minor bumps to corners/edges. Small bookplate and presentation inscription to front of vol.1: “Presented to Percy Stafford Allen, Scholar of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, by the president of fellows, on the occasion of his obtaining a First Class in the Honour School of Classical Moderations. 1890.” Inside pages all very clean and bright throughout. Plates all guarded. No foxing or darkening. Else very clean and tight copies. 279 & 238pp. Illustrated with 6 B&W plates etched by Herbert Railton, in photogravure by L. Chefdeville.
