Hardback, 9 x 6 inches. Full black morocco leather binding, raised banding and gilt lettering to spine, gilt crest to front, top page edges gilt, marbled endpapers, and wide inner gilt dentelles. In very good condition. Some rubbing to leather on corners, small bump to spine edge, some minor handling marks to boards. Haig family inscription to front endpaper (transcribed below:). Small clipping pasted to verso of title page. Inside pages all very clean, bright and tight throughout. An excellent copy. 496pp. Illustrated with a B&W engraved frontis plate, one double-page coloured/toned plate, and a couple of smaller b&w illustrations in text. Inscription: “To Sir Alleyne Alfred Boxall, Bart. the most able and unfailing of friends of my life, who has “Tyde what may..” brilliantly solved so many intricate problems affecting my interests, from Arthur B. Haig, 28th Laird of Bemersyde, May 1923.” Clipping: “Sir, the Haigs of Bemersyde have held their lands for over 800 years through unbroken male descent and they have not at any time passed from the family. Mrs Grace Figgins, Lowestoft.”
