Small stiff Paperback 6.5 x 4 inches. Pale green / grey paper wrappers lettered in dark green/black. In very good condition. Cover repaired, later card to rear board and spine, original cover pasted to front, (rubbed at edges and slightly chipped at spine.) Slight minor tanning to endpapers. Neat inscription to top of title page, “George Black.” A couple of odd minor tiny foxing spots to a couple of pages else pages all very clean and tight. 125 pp. Title page designed by Laurence Housman, of masks spewing forth grotesque creatures and incorporating Constable's monogram. Published 3 December 1894 as the first book of the ill-fated “The Acme Library” series. The series was not a success and in 1897 the publisher reissued The Parasite with new preliminary leaves that removed all mention of “The Acme Library.” Novella in which a repulsive medium falls in love with a young man, and uses her powers in an attempt to destroy him when he rejects her.
