Large hardback, thick binding, approximately 9 x 7 x 3.5 inches. Dark brown polished calf leather, gilt line paneled boards, gilt line and raised banding to spine, with gilt lettering to red morocco leather spine label. Marbled endpapers. In very good condition. Professional repair to front hinge, chips to corners and ends of spine. Edges rubbed and bumped. Rubbing and darkening to boards. Inside pages with some overall darkening/tanning and handling marks, some small repairs to the odd page corner/edge. Neat inscriptions throughout; to endpaper “Woodroof Land Barracks,” following endpapers; “Harriott Hagues Book, 1801, Daughter of the Late Lieut. and Adjut. Hague 6th Regt. of Foot.” Later inscription overleaf; “St. Peters Barracks, legum building, 17th april 1812, W.L. Le Brocq.” Title page darkened and edges rubbed, repair to edge of preface page. In part 2, family register of “The Hagues” is written on verso sides of plates, p648, 684. In “History of the Holy Gospel” p24 has family list of “Le Brocq,” with written passage to verso of plate at p26, “On the Death of my Beloved Wife, 1808.” William Le Brocq and Harriott Hague were husband and wife. Last 2 index pages are heavily rubbed, and reveal the earliest inscription, “John & Elizabeth Hague, 1757.” Top corner of last 2 pages torn. Else a very good tight copy. Illustrated with 88 B&W full-page engraved plates. Plus decorative chapter headings, letter and tailpieces.
