Engraved Size: 58 x 47cm Frame Size 69cm x 59cm In very good condition. A few minor foxing spots. Small pencil inscription lower edge. A beautiful Example. Original antique print made in lithographic technique, hand colored, taken from the famous work "Naturalis Atlas" published in Düsseldorf from 1824 to 1842. The quality of the hand colouring is of the very best. Goldfuss, A prolific author, he published numerous books and articles on zoology, and identified new species such as the koala and the Cervidae (deer). Goldfuss is renowned for his major study of invertebrate fossils found in Germany, Petrefacta Germaniae (1826-1844), which remained unfinished at his death, and for Naturhistorischer Atlas Naturalist Atlas (Dusseldorf: 1824-43), a comprehensive illustrated study of animals. These bird engravings are extremely rare especially found in such excellent condition.
