Hardback, 9 x 7 inches. Dark green cloth with beveled boards, decorative gilt lettering and black pictorial designs to front and spine. All edges gilt. Green endpapers. In very good condition. Some minor rubbing to corners and ends of spine. Some light rubbing to design on front. Inscription to half-title page “E.B. Rice, Served as a Sergent in the Rifle Brigade, during the Indian Mutiny, was present at Beige and Capture of Lucknow in 1858, and afterwards engaged on the North West Frontier of India,” then dated “10th November 1890” on first page. Frontis plate darkened on rear side and shows through to front side. Some minor foxing opposite maps, map at front with tear to folded edge, map at rear has small tear to folded edge. Else a very clean and tight copy. 624pp +4pp cat. Illustrated with many B&W illustrations including full-page and decorative letterpieces at chapter headings. Colour folding maps at front and rear.
