Hand coloured engraved map. In natural wood frame and gilt with grey mount behind glass. Framed size 15.5 x 13 inches. Size within mount 10.5 x 8 inches. In very good condition. Frame very good. Very bold and bright colouring. 3 faint horizontal folds/creases to bottom half of map. Slight crease to bottom r/h corner. Bottom edge of l/h side is trimmed tight and slightly visible by mount edge. Else a very clean and bright example. An attractively coloured map of West Riding, Yorkshire with vignette view of Harewood House. T. Moule (1754 - 1851), an authority on heraldry, embellished his maps with amorials and other features. This 1843 map edition was originally published in the Rev. James Barclay’s ‘Complete and Universal English Dictionary’. A very detailed quality print of the county of Yorkshire West Riding from the original steel engraved map. His was the last series of British Maps to follow the tradition of decorative armorial cartography and they make a pleasing and attractive addition to any home.
