Also bound in is Philologicall Passages Examined. The book was published in answer to John Selden’s History of tithes which argued that clergy had a legal but not a divine right to tithes and that tithes were not ordained by God's law. This was seen as implying a separation of state law and divine law, challenging the Divine Right of Kings.
