Bound together in half calf leather binding, with dark green cloth covers. Raised & gilt bands on spine, with title label (Christmas Readings) Marbled endpapers. In good condition. Leather a bit rubbed, with a few marks. Small crack lower front hinge, & light split rear hinge. Binding Firm. Inside generally very clean & tight. One plate from Seaside Maidens slightly trimmed around the edges, Three plates from the last Story Flower & Weed by M.E. Bradden have two small water marks on. Size 8.4 x 5.7 inches A VERY SCARCE ITEM. Seaside Maidens 98 pages Ten pages of illustrations by Harry Furniss, All bound volumes total 634 page with a total of 28 plates, plus many other in text illustrations. One of the great rarities of Hentiana, being the special annual issue of the Tinsley Magazine devoted entirely to Henty. Includes 10 stories, all relating to British seaside towns: Surley Joe: a Story of Scarborough; The Smugglers' Cutter: a Legend of Weymouth; The Wreck on the Goodwins: a Deal Boatman's Yarn; The Queen's Cup: a Drama at Ryde; The Rivals: a Romance of Ilfracombe; A Fish-Wife's Dream: a Reminiscence of Falmouth; A Narrow Escape: a Brighton Episode; A Piece of Orange-Peel: a Tale of Hastings; Working-Up: A Yarmouth History; On the Cliff: an Adventure at Barmouth.
