Publisher 1645 Seller ID 48001 Large map (engr.surface ca 50 cm x 42 cm). French text on verso. Nice probably early hand-colouring. An attractive and decorative map with 2 coat of arms, a nice elaborate title cartouche (with title in Latin and English)., large cartouche around the scales, with a divider above it, and another large cartouche around a box with has no writing inside. There are 1 ship and a vignette illustration Wide margins. In superb condition. Lovely strong yet delicate colouring, and strong impressions of the printing. The centrefold (as usual), no creases or tears. Blaeu published a county Atlas of England and Wales as part of his "Atlas Novus". The maps are mainly based on Saxton and Speed. In a number of instances, Blaeu grouped several Welsh counties together on a sheet. "The atlas was a masterpiece with a balanced style and calligraphic quality that has never been surpassed" (Booth, looking at maps).
