Hardback, size approx 8 x 5 inches. In blind embossed dark green cloth bearing the title National Illustrated Library and national flowers, along with the national heraldic shields. Spine title along with the national flowers, roses, shamrock, thistles, all in gilt. Yellow endpapers. In very good condition. Some minor rubbing on edges, with corners a little bumped. Spine slightly darkened, slightly rubbed and a little nicked at ends. Small mark to rear board. Inside some minor foxing to endpapers, & a few marks and spots to edges of pages and plates. Front hinge cracked between endpapers. Binders label to rear; “Leighton Son & Hodge, Shoe Lane London.” Else pages clean & tight. - Engravings show, Stockholm, Christiana, Copengagen, geysers, Icelandic scenery, Hecla, the Falls of Trollhatta. The journey was made in 1845 by this intrepid woman traveller. The first English edition and a standard work for many years. xv + 354 pp. 8 tinted engravings including frontispiece, and a pictorial vignette title page.
