Hardback, 9 x 6 inches. In brown cloth covers with gilt lettering and decorative banding to spine and gilt seagull to front. Dark brown endpapers. In very good condition. Spine slightly darkened and rubbed at ends. Small nick to rear edge and a couple of spots to front.Corners slightly bumped. Owner’s bookplate and label to front endpaper “Nathaniel Middleton, Hastings.” & “A.J. Wise, Hants.” Slip before half-tutle page; “Presented by The Author, H.N. Middleton Esq., Dorset Natural History and Antiquarian Field Club.” Mild foxing spots to page edges. Some light foxing to title pages and endpapers, some occasional small marks and spots to pages else a clean and tight copy. --- Comprehensive guide to the birds found in Dorset in the late 19th century with accounts of where they were seen and, often, shot. The photo frontis of Abbotsbury Swannery is dated 1887 in the introduction. 179pp. With b/w photo frontis and engravings in text.
