Hardback, 9 x 5.5 ins. Full tree calf leather binding, red leather spine label lettered in gilt, gilt banding to spine. Plain endpapers. In very good condition. Extremities a little rubbed ,corners bumped .Hinges cracked. Endpapers slightly darkened around edges. Bokplate to front “John L. Marks, ‘Chippendale’, Earlswood.” Loose handwritten note in front. Some minor handling marks to pages and a couple of neat pencil notations. Else a very clean and tight copy. --- John Philips was a well regarded poet in his day (1676-1708). Cyder, his chief work, is an imitation of Virgil's Georgics and has some fine descriptive passages with an exact account of the culture of the apple tree and the manufacture of cider. 183pp.
