Extremities rubbed, corners bumped, edges rubbed, some scuffs and chips to leather on boards. vol.1 lacks label from spine. Some minor marks to endpapers and minor tear to front endpaper vol.1, neat inscription to front and top of title page “John Hopkins Sydling Dorset.” A couple of small handling marks, else inside pages very clean and tight throughout. - James Hervey (1714-1758). His style is often bombastic, but he displays a rare appreciation of natural beauty, and his simple piety made him many friends. His earliest work, Meditations and Contemplations, said to have been modelled on Robert Boyle’s Occasional Reflections on various Subjects, within fourteen years passed through as many editions.
