Endpapers probably later, hinges cracked vol.1. Some marks and foxing to plates & tissue guards. Else clean and tight copies. Some handling marks and light foxing to pages else clean and tight. 464, 467pp. Profusely illustrated with b&w wood engravings in text and steel engraved plates with tissue guards. Fold out map at front of vol.1. and back of vol II. (p.428.) The book became a best seller in its time and then fell into relative obscurity by the turn of the century. It is the story of the second Grinnell Expedition in search of the famous Franklin Expedition which was lost without a trace in 1845 while in search of the Northwest Passage.
