Very scarce to find with original dustwrappers. - An up-to-date, complete, systematic account of Egyptian birds from the earliest times to the present, superseding other treatises on the subject. Nicoll lived for 18 years in Egypt and made an unrivalled collection of Egyptian birds, now in the Museum of the Giz Zoological Gardens. He intended to issue a work that was to replace Shelley's 'A Handbook to the Birds of Egypt', 1872, which was no longer up to date. The author was approached by Nicoll's widow in 1926, who asked him to complete the work which was then about two thirds completed. The project was sponsored by the Egyptian government and published under their authority. The result is an invaluable and important reference source on this subject.
