UNINTERRUPTED RUN OF 73 VOLUMES. Uniformly bound in brown hf.calf gt. each with 2 morocco labels on spines. Wide raised bands in gold. Vols. 1- 40 have black title labels, Vols. 41 - 47 have dark green / dark maroon labels (2 vols. have had the label replaced later with well matching ones). The New Series volumes have maroon label (some a bit lighter than others). The covers of the first 47 volumes are maroon silky cloth, of the New Series pebbled green cloth. All have plain endpapers, and marbled edges. Profusely illustrated. An attractive binding, a little bit rubbed. 2 volumes have been rebacked with original spines and endpapers preserved. Occasionally light foxing inside, but overall mostly very clean. A very good set. Contains many works by well-known authors, published here for the first time. Printed on Wookey Hole hand-made paper by John Baskett. Binding design and typography by Richard Barber. Top edge red. Tiny bruise top of spine. Else very good. First Separate Edition of this short story, which first appeared in "The Atlantic Monthly " in January, 1874.

3 volumes. Small 8vo. Original salmon pink cloth lettered in maroon. 239 pp; 229 pp; 225 pp./ cat. 2 pp.. Nice binding, the spines are a little bit darkened and slightly "bubbled". Vol. 3 has a few red marks on back cover, with a small weak mark on the top margin of back inside cover and the last 8 pages. Occasionally the staples are visible between 2 pages (a bit rusty at times). Endpapers are lightly foxed. Else very good. The last publication of this work in 3 volumes. Appeared originally in Macmillan's Magazine, October 1880-November 1881, and in the Atlantic Monthly, November 1880-December 1881 .
