ca1300’s (14th Century) 
Framed, with double window mount. Double sided. Calligraphed text with decorative gold and coloured illuminations by hand. On parchment. (Goatskin.) Frame approx 10 x 12 inches. Inner aperture 7 x 5 ins. In very good condition with good frame. Minor bumps to frame. Vertical crease to parchment, with pinholes from original binding visible on rear side. Some minor marks and slight curling to parchment, Else very clean and bright.

Hardback, large 10 x 6.5 inches. In full dark purple morocco leather binding. Blind embossed panelling to boards, Raised banding; gilt lettering; and extensive gilt decoration to spine. Gilt vignette to front. Gilt board edging and dentelles, All page edges gilt, light yellow endpapers. In very good condition. Some rubbing to edges and corners and ends of spine. Small nicks to top of spine. Some minor marks to boards. Bookplate to front endpaper “Charles Buckmaster Kings College London 1865.” Slight darkening to endpapers, some mild foxing after endpapers. Fontis and title page with some light foxing, also some foxing to inner plates, tissue guards darkened. Else a clean and tight copy. xxiv + 252pp + cxc + index. Illustrated with many engraved plates and maps.

Covers quite heavily worn; corners and edges bumped and rubbed, spines and boards rubbed, hinges cracked and split (cloth reinforced on insides.) Some chips to leather on spine. Bookplates to front endpapers “Stanley Leighton.” Frontispeice mildly foxed, page edges rough cut. A couple of very minor marks/slight darkening to the odd page else inside pages all very clean and tight throughout. With an engraved frontis portrait of the Author. 429 + 409pp.
