25 volumes. Large hardbacks, size approx 11 x 9 inches (approx 3 inches thick.) Half bound in maroon morocco leather to spines and corners, with green pebbled cloth boards. Gilt lettering and numbering to spines, with gilt decorations, line detailing, and raised banding to spines. Marbled page edges and endpapers. In good conditions. Spines are a little faded with some rubbing to spine ends, a couple have chips to ends (1, 49, 57, 100). Rubbing to boards, edges and corners rubbed, cloth on boards are rubbed, soiling to leading edges boards (mostly to last 8 vols but also to vol.1.) Bookplates to front endpapers “Basil Edwin Richardson”, and name also stamped to top corner of title pages. Inner hinges with strong reinforced bindings. A couple of very small spots (mostly to title and contents pages) otherwise inside pages very clean and tight. A nice set. Volumes are profusely illustrated with b&w plates and illustrations within text. Some issues have extra folding and double page plates, some toned.

Bookplate and neat inscription to front endpaper “Doctors Commons 1828.” Some slight darkening to title page and opposite where silk pagemark has been laid. Corners slightly bumped and edges slightly rubbed. Spine and boards faded. Some darkening to ‘endpaper’ with neat inscription “Rev. W. Watkins, Chichester.” Some slight darkening to main plate with a couple of tiny negligible spots. Some darkening to rear of cloth. Else very clean and tight. Very Scarce. Large lithographic plate backed on cloth. (20 x 26 inches.)

Hardback. Size 8 x 5.5 inches. Light grey cloth with maroon lettering and illustrated design to front and spine. Illustrated endpapers. In very good condition. Book complete and intact, with no owner inscriptions. Foxing throughout (varying from light to heavy: heaviest to reverse of plates plus adjoining leaves; plates themselves not affected), a few pale finger-marks and smudges, a few stains, pages 16-54 with light diagonal creasing, another leaf with creasing elsewhere, one short closed tear, three pairs of gatherings stretched, one pair of leaves clumsily opened (with ragged edges), two corner creases, uncut (protruding) corners and edges with usual bumping, soiling, creasing, nicks and wear. Two plates with finger-marks to margins, two glassine guards with nicks (one also with wear to fore-edge). Endpapers with slight foxing, a little offsetting and soiling, one or two small marks; faint trace of old pencilled price (erased). Edges of page block with foxing; top with darkening and scratching. Binding almost tight, with a little lean. Boards and spine with staining and marks as shown, usual bumping, rubbing and wear to extremities, rubbing to blue design (gilt still bright); cloth worn through slightly to lower corners, and with two tiny tears to head and foot of spine. 140pp. 4 full-page colour plates and 5 b&w full page plates. Also with chapter headings and smaller drawings within text.
