Else a clean and tight copy. 4 sections, each individually paginated. With b/w photographs and diagrams. In four sections. Part A, The World’s Aeronautical Progress, Historical (Service Aviation); Part B, Historical (Civil Aviation); Part C, All the World’s Aeroplanes; Part D, All the World’s Aero-Engines. The introductory chapter is entitled ‘Victory’ and notes that German High Command had claimed that Allied air power was the decisive factor in winning the war. the raid on Peenemunde stopped the V1 raids although the V2 followed later that year. Jet engines were used in a few warplanes on both sides. Carrier borne aircraft made a major contribution to the destrucion of the Japanese fleet. This is the last edition to use Silhouettes, originally introduced as an aid to recognition.

The introductory chapter is entitled ‘The Waning of German Air Power’ and notes that German factories are concentrating on producing fighters rather than bombers. Britain now has the Mosquito and long range fuel tanks enable fighter escorts to prove cover for longer. The V1 flying bomb has become a threat and the ‘Dambusters’ raid raised morale. Consideration was being given to post war air traffic.
