A nice copy of this general work of science by a European populariser of science whose own scientific theories, spontaneous generation, etc. have been discredited. Felix Archimede Pouchet and Louis Pasteur were engaged in a long running dispute over scientific theories regarding bacteria and spontaneous generation. Pasteur has of course been proven correct. Nevertheless Pouchet (1800-1872) was an important naturalist and biologist in his day. Sections on; The Animal Kingdom, The Vegetable Kingdom, Geology, The Sidereal Universe and Popular Errors (monsters & superstitions).
