Browning to edges. Bottom of spine and corners very slightly rubbed. Slight browning to endpapers. Else a clean and tight copy. First published in 1894, this was the first book on Thomas Hardy. Revisions in the present edition are confined to the addition of the chapter on Hardy’s poetry by J.E. Barton, the addition of the Vernon Hill portrait, and alterations to the bibliography, which is extended to 1922,. Also included is "Rev. William Barnes, B.D., a biographical note" by Thomas Hardy, reprinted from The Athenaeum.
