In hard card covers with slip case.With a pictorial design on the front cover from a woodcut by Percy Smith. one of a limited edition of 775 signed copies of which this is No.429. 32pp. In very good condition in good slip case. (sc; part faded and rubbed with small tear at bottom fore edge). Spine slightly darkened. Mild foxing to endpapers. browning to half title and last pages. Else a clean and tight copy. James Laver (1899-1975), in a widely varied career, won the Newdigate prize for verse at Oxford in 1921, wrote Nostradamus or The Future Foretold (1942), Taste & Fashion, A History of English Costume (1937), books on 19th century French art, and was Keeper of the Victoria and Albert museum for almost forty years.
