Slight crease to front cover. Prize bookplate to first blank page, dated 1903. Slight browning to endpapers and backs of plates. Else a clean and tight copy. The story of a poor girl in Victorian times who moves the hearts of people who meet her. She is eventually rescued from her life of grinding poverty.

Size 4.75 x 6.25 inches. In blue cloth covers with gilt to spine and front. 144pp. With b/w engraved plates. In very good condition. Spine slightly darkened. Slight browning to endpapers. Neat inscription to front endpaper, dated 1872. Occasional small marks and foxing spots. Else a clean and tight copy. The author was one of the most popular Evangelical writers of the 19th century, who used her "Christian principles as a protest against specific social evils in her children's books." (Wikipaedia).
