In original white cloth covers with green to spine and front. 64pp. Prof. ills. with colour plates and plan of cathedral. In very good condition. Spine darkened. Cover stained at edges through handling. Mild foxing to fore edge. Remnant of sticky tape on front endpaper. Else clean and tight. An illustrated history of the city of Exeter.

Tall 8vo. In maroon cloth covers with gilt to spine and front. Red maps to grey pastedown endpapers. 445pp. With colour frontis with tissue guard. B/w photo plates and line drawings. In good condition. Spine faded, and rubbed at ends with small marks. Corners slightly bumped. Mild foxing to edges affecting some pages inside. Owner’s inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1930. Occasional pencil marks and notes in margins. Else a tight copy. Contents incl.: Lyme Regis (pp.205-229)/ Chesil Beach & Portland/ Weymouth - Dorchester/ William Barnes & Thomas Hardy/ Lulworth..../ A Coast Ramble in Purbeck/ Wareham, Poole & Wimborne/ etc.; The author gives brief descriptions of the places visited together with a short history and anecdotes of famous and notorious people associated with them.

Beautifully illustrated book of descriptions of Dorset from Dorchester to Purbeck.

Owner’s bookplate to front endpaper. letters from author to owner loose in front. Else a clean and tight copy. The principles of Christian symbolism, as depicted on the large fabric and the minor details of our churches and cathedrals. From the library of Alfred Pope, one of the founders of the Eldridge Pope Brewery, friend of Thomas Hardy and twice Mayor of Dorchester. There is a small number of letters between the author and Alfred Pope. Several of the illustrations are from Dorset churches.
