Tall 8vo. In olive green cloth covers with gilt to spine. With illustrated dustwrapper. 144pp. With b/w photographs. In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; spine slightly faded. Not price clipped). A very clean and tight copy. HMS Hood was regarded as one of the most powerful ships afloat. When she exploded during an engagement with the Bismark, leaving only three survivors, the country was shocked. The author gives the history of the line of ships named ‘Hood’ and suggests some reasons why the last of these proved so vulnerable.

In near fine condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; spine slightly darkened. Slight browning to edges. Not price clipped). A very clean and tight copy. The Cruiser Emden worked in the Indian Ocean as a commerce raider during WWI. The captain was noted for his care towards captured crews, but was eventuall sunk by the Australian heavy cruiser Sydney. A landing party had been left on the Cocos Keeling Islands which managed to make its way back to Germany. A little known tale of heroism and endurance by German sailors.
