Includes essays on Patrick Branwell Bronte, William Barnes, Erasmus Darwin, Hartley Coleridge, Branwell Bronte, and others. Also about the English bookselling world of Thomas J. Wise, the Blackwells and the library of Edmund Gosse / Wise's Ashley Library catalogue / A Memory of George D. Smith / etc.; JOHN DRINKWATER (June 1, 1882 - March 25, 1937) was an English poet and dramatist.He was born in Leytonstone, London, and worked as an insurance clerk. In the period immediately before the First World War, he was one of the group of poets associated with the Gloucestershire village of Dymock, along with Rupert Brooke and others.He was married to Daisy Kennedy, the ex-wife of Benno Moiseiwitsch. SIR JOHN KNEWSTUB MAURICE ROTHENSTEIN, CBE (1901 - 1992) was an English art historian. He grew up in London the son of Sir William Rothenstein. The family was connected to the Bloomsbury Set. John Rothenstein studied at Oxford University and became friends with T. E. Lawrence.

In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; spine slightly darkened. Smal chips to front corners. Not price clipped). Spine slightly faded. Small marks to covers. Mild foxing to edges. Slight browning to endpapers. Occasional neat pencil notes in margins. Else a clean and tight copy. The play was first produced at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1918. The play ends with Lincoln’s assassination and includes a cast list for the original production.
