Coloured frontispiece and many illustrations in black and white. 315 pp. Extremities slightly rubbed. Front cover faded on 2 margins, also has a weak horizontal indentation. Binding a bit faded overall. Inside very clean. Near very good. A book of travel, through Calcutta, Kapurthala, Delhi, Jeypore, Agra, Dholpur, Kolar, Rangoon, Mandalay, Hongkong, Canton, Shanghai, (Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Honolulu, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, etc.). etc. - he was allowed to see and participate in many ceremonies that was closed to the ordinary traveller. Of his own performances Bertram says very little except when relating an amusing incident. He does, however, devote 3 very interesting chapters to the tricks of the Indian conjurers.
