In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; spine darkend/faded, some light foxing spots, cut/nick nr centre of spine, rubbing to edges, Not price clipped). Cloth clean. Mild foxing to endpapers, small owners and bookseller labels to front. Else a very clean and tight copy. --- This is a general introduction to the region and its natural history, and covers every aspect of Dartmoor, including its geology, climate, drainage system and flora and fauna.The moors, tors, bogs and woodlands are each given careful attention, and there are two chapters on the history of the area from prehistoric times and the character of the Dartmoor people.The controversy over the competing claims on Dartmoor of national defense, water supply, mineral working, afforestation, hill sheep-farming, public recrreation and nature conservation is also fully discussed. 273pp. With 17 colour & 36 b/w photographs; 3 maps.
