4to. In green half calf leather bindings with gilt to spines. Raised bands. Marbled boards and endpapers, red top edge. 10 volumes prof ills. with b/w engravings and some monochrome plates. In very good condition. All vols have slight rubbing to edges and some corners are slightly bumped. Small marks to some covers and Vol I has small stain to back cover and spine is slightly split at bottom of front edge. Mild foxing to all edges affecting some inside pages. Owner’s signature appears in all voils, either on first blank page or first title page. Slight browning to early pages and some have small tears. Else all vols are clean and tight. A natural history encyclopaedia in French. Vols1 & 2 cover man and the animals; the mammals; L’Homme et Les Animaux, Les Mammiferes. The next Vols 1 & 2 are Birds, Les Oiseaux. The next Vols 1 & 2 are insects, Les Insectes, and the remaining vols are individually; Les Poissons et Les Crustaces; Les Reptiles et Les Batraciens; Les Vers et Les Mollusques; La Terre, Les Mers et Les Continents. Profusely illustrated throughout with engravings, many taken from contemporary photgraphs. The volume on Man divides people into the usual 19thC racial types.
