Tall 8vo. In terra cotta cloth covers with gilt to spine and front with black borders to boards. Arms of the Goldsmiths’ Company in gilt to front. Black endpapers. In very good condition. Spine slightly bumped at top end. Small marks to boards. Corners slightly bumped. Mild foxing to edges. Owner’s bookplate to front endpaper. Front hinge slightly cracked. Relevant inserts loose at front and back. A couple of slight separations at gatherings. Else a clean and tight copy. 238pp. With large fold out plate at front. Tables and illustrations in text. Covers hall marks on gold and silver plate from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century. From the library of Alfred Pope, one of the founders of the Eldridge Pope Brewery, friend of Thomas Hardy and twice Mayor of Dorchester.
