Size 5.25 x 7.75 inches. In maroon cloth covers with gilt to spine and front. Top edge gilt. In very good condition. Spine slightly faded and rubbed at ends. Mild foxing to edges and endpapers. Neat inscription to front endpaper. Relevant newspaper clipping loose in front. Occasional neat pencil marks in margins. Else a clean and tight copy. 277 pp. With b/w frontis. The author was a highly regarded doctor who created the first residency program for special training of physicians, and he was the first to bring medical students out of the lecture hall for bedside clinical training. He has frequently been described as the "Father of Modern Medicine". Here he writes on a variety of medicine related subjects and people, including the training of medical students.
