In very good condition. Minor bumps to corners, some slihgt darkening to cloth. A couple of small spots to side page edges. Half-title/endpaper remains uncut. A couple of light spots to endpapers else inside pages all very clean and tight throughout. This is a scarce 1st edition copy of the Author’s first published book. 234pp. Illustrated with a b&w frontispiece. Decorative letterpieces, red lined semi-bordering to pages.

Alfred Russel Wallace was a naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist and biologist. He is best known for independently proposing a theory of evolution due to natural selection that prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own theory. Here he sums up his work on biology and on the Darwinian theory of evolution. In addition, he extends the scope and application of the theory and explains many of the phenomena of living things thought to be beyond its range. He discusses natural selection, the chromosome theory of inheritance and Galton's numerical law of inheritance.
