A couple of minor spots to page edges, Else a clean and tight copy. 408pp. Illustrated with 110 b&w plates and ills. within in text. Alfred Russel Wallace was a naturalist, explorer, geographer, anthropologist and biologist. He is best known for independently proposing a theory of evolution due to natural selection that prompted Charles Darwin to publish his own theory. Here he sums up his work on biology and on the Darwinian theory of evolution. In addition, he extends the scope and application of the theory and explains many of the phenomena of living things thought to be beyond its range. He discusses natural selection, the chromosome theory of inheritance and Galton's numerical law of inheritance.
