Tall 8vo; 11.5 x 8.5 ins. Harcback, bevelled green cloth covers with gilt lettering to front and spine and black illustrated design to covers. The covers are rubbed and still quite bright in places with minor marks, minor wear with a few tiny dents to the edges and corners are bumped. The spine is rubbed, a tad darkened and chipped on the top. Both inner hinges are strong, a sticker has been removed from front free endpaper. The pages are clean and very firmly bound. The plates and folding plates are all in very good condition, just a very small area of minor damage to the frontispiece where it become a tad stuck due to the nature of the shiny colour plates. The book is lacking one plate. Else a clean and tight copy. xii, 824 p, numerous illustrations, [15] leaves of plates (some folded and in colour) "Sunset in the Tropics" (elephants) / “The Dirge of the Desert” (lions: folds out), etc.; Many b/w ills., incl. full-pg.(f.e.:LOUIS WAIN: A Story in Black and White).

Only very lightly thumb-marked, and occasionally lightly foxed. A few small ticks on pencil, and on one page a number written in red pencil (“2”). Fore-edge of one pages is slightly chipped. Overall still very good. Frontispiece and title-page with large vignette illustration. Title-page verso is blank. 250 engraved illustrations, some full-page. 128 pages, including, the Alphabet.
