Size approx 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Half bound in blue calf leather to spine and corners and marbled paper covered boards. Highly decorative gilt, raised banding, and label to spine. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Overall in very good condition. Corners and edges to boards are slightly rubbed with a couple of minor chips. Bottom board edges chipped. Faint ring mark to front. Inside title pg darkened toward margin with some minor handling marks to pages, else generally clean and tight throughout. No inscriptions. 496pp. With colour and gilt half-title page, 12 b&w plates illustrated by Keeley Halswelle, and illustrated title page.

Hardback. 8 x 5.5 inches. In maroon full morocco leather binding with gilt decoration and lettering to spine and gilt decorations to front and rear covers. Decorative gilt edging to boards and inner edges. All page edges gilt. Green patterned endpapers. In very good condition. Some rubbing to edges and corners. Corners bumped. A couple of small marks to boards. Endpapers clean, neat inscription to front. Original bookseller label “Webb & Simms, Manchester.” Pages darkened around edges. Some mild foxing throughout. Else a very nice tight copy. - Poems of Samuel Rogers. Although celebrated for his verse in his lifetime, today he is remembered more for his influence and help given to other writers. Rogers kept a notebook in which he entered impressions of the conversation of many of his distinguished friends—Fox, Edmund Burke, Henry Grattan, Richard Porson, John Horne Tooke, Talleyrand, Lord Erskine, Scott, Lord Grenville and the Duke of Wellington. They were published by his nephew William Sharpe in 1859 as Recollections by Samuel Rogers; Reminiscences and Table-Talk of Samuel Rogers, Banker, Poet, and Patron of the Arts, 1763–1855 (1903), by GH Powell, is an amalgamation of these two authorities. Rogers held various honorary positions: he was one of the trustees of the National Gallery; and he served on a commission to inquire into the management of the British Museum, and on another for the rebuilding of the Houses of Parliament. 295pp. With b&w steel engraved plates & illustrations within text.
