4to. Stunning leather binding. In brown half calf leather binding with beige cloth boards. Gilt to spine and borders. Top edge gilt. Raised bands. Marbled endpapers. In near fine condition. Slight browning to early pages. Two Owners’ bookplates to front endpaper (Jack Morris) & (Lionel Phillips). Else a very clean and tight copy. 491pp. With 44 b/w plates at back, b/w engraved frontis and fold out family trees. John Aubrey’s description of Wiltshire brought up to date (1862) and corrected. Aubrey seems to have much on trust that he had not observed personally. John Jackson provides copious notes with short histories.
