Marlowe had completed the two opening Sestyads before his death and ‘about a hundred lines of the third’. The work was completed by George Chapman. A limited edition of 500, this is No. 213. The publisher based his type on the Jenson type.

It is a most vivid account of the great struggle for Italian independence. Meredith had felt a passionate sympathy with the Italians. His dramatic gift, and perhaps his English fairness, led him to see heroism even in some of the Austrians, and his Major Weisspriess is a strong character, though he fights in a bad cause.
