In blue pictorial hard card covers with matching dustwrapper. 32 text pp. Approx.50 b/w photo plates. In very good condition with very good dustwrapper (dw; small chips to top corners. Small marks. Not price clipped). Small bumps to edges. Slight browning to endpapers. Else a clean and tight copy. Misericords were designed to enable monks and canons to rest while standing during long services. The carpenters took the opportunity to decorate these small seats with a range of subjects, both religious and secular. The author describes them and provides many illustrations.

Misericords, carved as they were in the underside of tip up seats, were carved with many and varied subjects, often humorous. With many examples.
